Overland Campaign

The Overland Campaign was a series of major battles fought in Virginia during May and June 1864 during the American Civil War. Directed by Union Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant against Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, the campaign resulted in high casualties on both sides but ultimately maneuvered Lee's forces into the siege of Petersburg.
