An offshore oil rig, or oil platform, is a large structure equipped with facilities to extract and process petroleum and natural gas from rock formations beneath the seabed. These structures are typically located on the continental shelf and often include accommodation facilities for the workforce. Depending on the water depth and environment, they can be fixed to the ocean floor, artificial islands, or floating structures.
