In physics, the observer effect is the disturbance of a physical system by the act of observation. This phenomenon occurs because measurement instruments must interact with the system, thereby altering its state in some manner. It is distinct from the uncertainty principle, which describes a fundamental limit on the precision of simultaneous quantum measurements.
