The Norfolk Southern Railway is a major Class I freight railroad operating in the Eastern United States. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the company was formed in 1982 through the merger of the Norfolk and Western Railway and the Southern Railway. It operates an extensive network of route miles across 22 eastern states and the District of Columbia.
