The Nika riots were a devastating week-long revolt against the Roman emperor Justinian I that took place in Constantinople in 532 AD. Sparked by conflict among chariot racing factions, they are regarded as the most violent riots in the city's history, resulting in the destruction of nearly half of Constantinople and the deaths of tens of thousands of citizens.
