New Haven is a coastal city in the U.S. state of Connecticut, located on the northern shore of Long Island Sound. It is the third-most populous city in the state and is best known as the home of Yale University. Founded in 1638 by English Puritans, it was the first planned city in America, laid out in a grid known as the Nine Square Plan.
