A neutrino is an electrically neutral elementary particle that interacts only via the weak subatomic force and gravity. It has a rest mass that is incredibly small but non-zero, allowing it to pass through most matter almost entirely undisturbed. Neutrinos exist in three distinct flavors—electron, muon, and tau—and can oscillate between these flavors as they travel.
