Neural pruning, commonly known as synaptic pruning, is the biological process of synapse elimination or weakening that occurs in the developing brain. While it continues throughout a mammal's lifespan, the most active period of pruning occurs between early childhood and early adulthood to optimize the efficiency of neural networks. During this process, unused or weak connections are systematically removed, allowing more active and vital pathways to strengthen.
