Neoantigens are newly formed, tumor-specific proteins that arise from somatic mutations in the DNA of cancer cells. Because they are entirely absent from normal, healthy tissues, they are recognized as foreign by the host immune system, making them highly promising targets for personalized cancer immunotherapies and vaccines.
