Moral Foundations Theory is a social psychological theory that attempts to explain the origins of and variation in human moral reasoning based on innate, modular foundations. First proposed by Jonathan Haidt, Craig Joseph, and Jesse Graham, the theory suggests that human morality is built upon several distinct evolutionary foundations, such as Care/Harm, Fairness/Cheating, and Loyalty/Betrayal.
