Miltown is a former brand name for meprobamate, a carbamate-class anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) and sedative drug. It was widely marketed as a minor tranquilizer, but was largely replaced by benzodiazepines because of meprobamate’s narrower safety margin and risk of dependence and serious side effects.
