Military deception (MILDEC) is an attempt by a military force to gain an advantage during warfare by misleading adversary decision-makers into taking actions or inactions that benefit the deceiving force. This is typically achieved by creating or amplifying an artificial fog of war through psychological operations, information warfare, visual deception, and other tactical methods. As a form of disinformation, it closely overlaps with psychological warfare and strategic denial.
