Michigan is a peninsular state located in the Great Lakes region of the Upper Midwestern United States. It is the tenth-largest state by population and is uniquely divided into two distinct landmasses: the Upper Peninsula and the Lower Peninsula. Michigan is bordered by four of the five Great Lakes, giving it the longest freshwater coastline of any political subdivision in the world.
