Melanoma is a type of cancer that develops from the pigment-producing cells known as melanocytes. While it most commonly occurs in the skin, it can also rarely develop in other areas such as the mouth, intestines, or eyes. It is the most dangerous form of skin cancer, characterized by the uncontrolled growth of pigment-producing cells.
