A mass driver, or electromagnetic catapult, is a proposed method of non-rocket spacelaunch that uses a linear motor to accelerate and catapult payloads to high speeds. By sequentially firing a row of electromagnets, the system can launch materials or spacecraft from the surface of a celestial body, such as the Moon or Earth, into space.
