Loop quantum gravity (LQG) is a research program in theoretical physics that seeks to formulate a quantum theory of gravity by quantizing spacetime geometry itself. It describes space as having discrete quantum states, often represented by spin networks, and aims to reconcile general relativity with quantum mechanics without assuming a fixed background spacetime.
