Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is a colorless, non-flammable chemical compound with the formula N₂O. It has a slightly sweet scent and taste, and is widely used in surgery and dentistry for its anesthetic and pain-reducing effects. At elevated temperatures, it acts as a powerful oxidizer similar to molecular oxygen.
