The Last Glacial Period, colloquially referred to as the last Ice Age, occurred from approximately 115,000 to 11,700 years ago during the end of the Pleistocene epoch. It was characterized by the expansion of massive continental ice sheets, particularly in North America and Eurasia, and concluded with the transition into the current Holocene epoch.
