Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a tropical evergreen tree in the coffee family native to Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Papua New Guinea. Its leaves contain active compounds such as mitragynine, which produce opioid-like and stimulant effects when consumed. Historically used in traditional herbal medicine, kratom is commonly chewed, smoked, or brewed into tea.
