Ketamine is a cyclohexanone-derived general anesthetic and NMDA receptor antagonist with analgesic and hallucinogenic properties. It is used medically for anesthesia, pain management, and treatment-resistant depression. The drug exists as a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, esketamine and arketamine, and is also used recreationally as a dissociative hallucinogen.
