Ivermectin is an antiparasitic medication discovered in 1975 and approved for human use in 1987. It is widely used to treat a variety of parasitic infestations, including head lice, scabies, river blindness, strongyloidiasis, and lymphatic filariasis. The drug works by interfering with the nerve and muscle functions of parasites, leading to their paralysis and death.
