Industry self-regulation

Topic

Industry self-regulation is the process whereby members of an industry, trade, or sector of the economy monitor their own adherence to legal, ethical, or safety standards. Instead of relying on an outside, independent agency or governmental regulator, industry participants establish and enforce their own rules. While this approach can ease compliance and foster ownership of standards, it can also give rise to conflicts of interest.
