An immune-privileged organ or site is a region of the mammalian body that is able to tolerate the introduction of antigens without eliciting an inflammatory immune response. In these specialized areas, such as the brain, eyes, testes, and pregnant uterus, foreign tissue grafts can survive for extended periods without being rejected. This evolutionary adaptation helps protect vital structures from the potentially damaging effects of inflammatory immune reactions.
