Howard Walter Florey was an Australian pathologist who helped develop penicillin into a usable medical treatment by isolating and purifying it with Ernst Boris Chain and their colleagues. He shared the 1945 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Chain and Alexander Fleming for discoveries concerning penicillin and its curative effect in infectious diseases.
