Hospital Delirium
Topic
Hospital delirium, also known as hospital-acquired delirium, is a sudden and severe state of acute confusion and disorientation that develops in patients during a hospital stay, particularly in intensive care units or following surgery. It is characterized by disturbances in attention, awareness, and cognitive function, often triggered by acute illness, medical interventions, sleep deprivation, or medication side effects. This condition is highly prevalent among older adults and is associated with longer hospitalizations, increased risk of complications, and higher mortality rates.
