A home invasion, also known as a hot prowl burglary, is a type of burglary in which an offender unlawfully enters a residential dwelling while the occupants are present inside. This crime is considered particularly dangerous by law enforcement because of the high potential for violent confrontation between the intruder and the residents. The perpetrator's intent may range from theft and robbery to assault, kidnapping, or other violent offenses.
