Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are a family of highly conserved proteins produced by cells in response to exposure to stressful conditions, such as heat, cold, UV light, and tissue remodeling. They primarily function as molecular chaperones, assisting in the proper folding of newly synthesized proteins and refolding damaged proteins to maintain cellular proteostasis.
