Hand washing, also known as hand hygiene, is the process of cleaning the hands with soap and water to eliminate bacteria, viruses, dirt, and other harmful substances. Proper drying of the hands is an essential part of the process, as wet hands are more easily recontaminated. When soap and water are unavailable, alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used as an alternative.
