The Grand Review of the Armies was a massive military procession and celebration held in Washington, D.C., on May 23–24, 1865, following the Union victory in the American Civil War. Over the course of two days, elements of the Union Army paraded down Pennsylvania Avenue to receive accolades from crowds and prominent officials, including President Andrew Johnson. The event marked a formal celebration of the war's end and the beginning of the demobilization of the Union forces.
