The governor of California is the head of government of the U.S. state of California and the commander-in-chief of the state's military forces. Established in 1849, the officeholder is responsible for enforcing state laws, submitting the annual state budget, and signing or vetoing legislation. The governor is limited to serving two four-year terms.
