The Gordian Knot is an Ancient Greek legend associated with Alexander the Great in Gordium, Phrygia, regarding an extremely complex knot that tied an oxcart. According to prophecy, whoever could untie the knot would be destined to rule all of Asia. In 333 BC, Alexander solved the seemingly impossible challenge by dramatically cutting through the knot with his sword, making it a lasting metaphor for resolving an intractable problem with a bold, decisive stroke.
