Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause
Topic
Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), historically referred to as atrophic vaginitis or vulvovaginal atrophy, is a collection of symptoms and signs associated with a decrease in estrogen and other sex steroids. It involves changes to the labia, clitoris, vagina, urethra, and bladder, commonly causing vaginal dryness, burning, irritation, and urinary symptoms. The condition is chronic and progressive, typically requiring ongoing treatment to manage symptoms.
