Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which a person or group covertly sows seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or group, making them question their own memory, perception, or judgment. The term originates from the 1938 play Gas Light and its 1944 film adaptation, and it has since become widely used in clinical and colloquial contexts to describe abusive behavior.
