Gambling is the wagering of something of value, known as the stakes, on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional material goods or money. It fundamentally requires three elements to be present: consideration, risk, and a prize. The practice is a major international commercial activity, heavily regulated or controlled by licensing authorities in many jurisdictions.
