The mesolimbic pathway, also known as the reward pathway, is a key dopaminergic pathway in the brain that connects the ventral tegmental area in the midbrain to the ventral striatum of the basal ganglia in the forebrain. It plays a crucial role in modulating incentive salience, motivation, reinforcement learning, and fear, and is heavily implicated in the neurobiology of addiction, schizophrenia, and depression.
