Evolutionary mismatch is an evolutionary biology concept describing how a species' previously advantageous traits can become maladaptive when its environment changes faster than its biology can adapt. This phenomenon occurs when rapid environmental or societal shifts leave evolved behaviors and physical traits poorly suited to the new conditions.
