An ancient Mesopotamian epic centered on Gilgamesh, the semi-divine king of Uruk, and his friendship with Enkidu. Their adventures lead Gilgamesh to confront grief, mortality, and the limits of human power; it is regarded as the oldest surviving example of narrative literature.
