Dyatlov Pass incident
Topic
The Dyatlov Pass incident refers to the mysterious deaths of nine Soviet ski hikers in the northern Ural Mountains of the Soviet Union between February 1 and 2, 1959. Led by Igor Dyatlov, the experienced trekking group from the Ural Polytechnical Institute established a camp on the slopes of Kholat Syakhl, where they subsequently fled their tent in sub-zero temperatures for reasons that remain a subject of intense speculation and research. Soviet investigators concluded that a "compelling natural force" had caused the deaths, and modern scientific studies suggest a sudden slab avalanche was the most likely trigger.
