Double lung transplant

Double lung transplant

Topic

A double lung transplant, or bilateral lung transplantation, is a major surgical procedure in which both of a patient's diseased lungs are replaced with healthy donor lungs. It is typically performed to treat end-stage respiratory diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. While the procedure carries significant risks, including organ rejection and infection, it can dramatically improve survival rates and quality of life for eligible patients.
