Detoxification
Topic
Detoxification is the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from a living organism, primarily carried out by the liver. It can also refer to the period of drug withdrawal during which an organism returns to homeostasis after long-term use of an addictive substance. In clinical medicine, detoxification is achieved through the decontamination of poison ingestion, the use of antidotes, and techniques such as dialysis.
