Deep Cognitive Work

Topic

Deep cognitive work, commonly referred to as deep work, is the ability to focus without distraction on cognitively demanding tasks. Coined and popularized by computer science professor Cal Newport, this state of distraction-free concentration pushes cognitive capabilities to their limit to create new value, improve skills, and produce high-quality output. It stands in contrast to shallow work, which consists of logistical, non-cognitively demanding tasks that are often performed while distracted.
