Dark matter is a hypothetical form of matter that does not interact with light or electromagnetic radiation, making it invisible to conventional astronomical instruments. Its presence is inferred through its gravitational effects on visible matter, such as the rotational speeds of galaxies and gravitational lensing. It is estimated to constitute approximately 85% of the total matter in the universe.
