Germ cell

Topic

A germ cell is any biological cell that gives rise to the gametes of an organism that reproduces sexually. In many animals, these cells originate early in embryonic development and migrate to the developing gonads, where they undergo meiosis to differentiate into mature eggs or sperm. Unlike somatic cells, germ cells carry genetic information that is passed down to the next generation.
