This phenomenon frequently occurs alongside urban gentrification, where rising costs and demographic shifts lead to the alienation of long-term residents even if they are not physically displaced. As local businesses, community spaces, and cultural landmarks change, the original population experiences a profound loss of place attachment and belonging.
