Cowardice is a behavioral trait wherein excessive fear prevents an individual from taking risks, facing danger, or enduring difficulty. Widely regarded as the opposite of courage, it is typically viewed as a failure of character or a moral deficiency in the face of a challenge. Throughout history, many societies and legal codes, particularly military ones, have condemned and penalized cowardice.
