During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, governments worldwide implemented non-pharmaceutical interventions, including stay-at-home orders, curfews, and quarantines, to limit the spread of the virus. By April 2020, about half of the world's population—more than 3.9 billion people in over 90 countries or territories—was under some form of lockdown.
