Cook County Jail is a large county detention complex located on approximately 96 acres in the South Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It is operated by the Cook County Sheriff and has served as the county’s principal jail complex, with a detention facility on or near the site dating to the period after the Great Chicago Fire.
