Commoditization
Topic
Commoditization is the business process by which goods or services that once possessed economic value and distinguishable attributes become simple, undifferentiated commodities in the eyes of consumers. This transition shifts a market from monopolistic competition based on brand and uniqueness to perfect competition driven primarily by price. As a result, manufacturers and brand owners lose their pricing power as products become largely interchangeable.
