COGCON (continuity of government readiness condition) is a United States government readiness level system that tracks the preparedness of the federal government in the event of a national emergency. Established under National Security Presidential Directive 51, it is roughly analogous to the military's DEFCON alert state system and consists of four levels ranging from normal operations to the relocation of executive officials.
