A closed-end fund is an investment vehicle that raises a fixed amount of capital through an initial public offering (IPO) and then lists its shares for trading on a secondary market. Unlike open-end mutual funds, it does not issue or redeem shares on a daily basis, meaning its share price is determined by market demand and can trade at a premium or discount to its net asset value (NAV).
